■ Title: 시스템 사고를 통한 생태계서비스의 trade-off 관계 고찰

The purpose of this study is to analyze causation of Ecosystem service’s trade-off(ES trade-off) and to establish baseline data for wise spatial planning and management. In order to understand why and how ES trade-off occurs, systems thinking and causal loops were employed. The causal loop of ecosystem service creation cycle includes profits quantification process, decision making process, spatial planning and management process, and ecosystem services creation process. The profits quantification process has a limitation that all ecosystem service categories were not included in profits quantification, because quantification method for cultural services is insufficient. These problems led to unequal discussion opportunity in decision making process.

ES trade-off occurs through transition of ecosystem function in spatial scale and temporal scale. In spatial scale, land-use variation and resource-use variation contribute to change an ecosystem function for different ES category by spatial planning and management. In temporal scale, a change of an ecosystem function for different ES category is influenced by ecological succession, seasonal change and land cover variation, which are parameter from environmental features. This study presented that spatial planning and management should ecosystem service assessment in order to enhance balanced ecosystem services.

■ Title: 플랜터형 호안구조물을 설치한 저관리형 습지의 수질 제어 기작에 관한 연구.

This study is a basic research for low maintenance constructed wetlands which can prevent water quality deterioration due to wetland soils. The purpose of this study is to analyze water quality control mechanisms of constructed wetland on the artificial ground which installed the modular revetment structure(MRS), a device that separates water and soil. This study was then conducted with two different wetland mesocosms (a treatment plot and a control). These mesocosms were monitored to analyze effects of water quality control of the MRS. A treatment plot was built, and separated into soil and water, by filling the MRS with the decomposed granite soil in the mesocosm made of rubber material. A control plot was built where the decomposed granite soils were exposed to water by leaving the soil on the bottom of the mesocosm made of rubber material. Water quality was then analyzed by using Kolmogorov-Smirnov Z examination which then showed that pH, BOD, SS, Chl-a, T-P, T-N had statistically valid difference between a container with the MRS and one without it. According to the analysis of the water quality, the temperature and the EC level came out similarly and both mesocosm showed same level on pH and DO. A treatment plot had higher levels of BOD, SS Chl-a, and T-P.  A control plot’s T-N value was little lower than that of the treatment plot. This study suggests method of constructed wetlands using the MRS prevents problems occurring in wetland soils: aridity of wetlands by soil erosion, eutrophication, and algal blooms due to nutrients released from wetland soil. These functions of constructed wetland with the MRS increase aesthetic, ecologic, social, and economic value of the wetland. Outcomes of this research will later enable more proficient way of stabilizing water quality and provide data for planning low maintenance constructed wetlands.

■ Title: 멸종위기 식물 적용에 따른 영양염류 동태성 분석: 조름나물의 부영향화 제어 효과를 중심으로

The purpose of this paper is to analyze nutrients dynamics depending on biomass of Menyanthes trifoliata L., the endangered species, in a small closed-type wetland. In order to understand dynamics between Menyanthes trifoliata L. and eutrophication, causal loops and stock-flow diagram were constructed. The result of the model simulation was matched well with monitoring data (Menyanthes trifoliata L. biomass, TN, TP, DO). The model was simulated with 3 scenarios. In case of scenario 1, the initial value of biomass was 0mg/L, and the eutrophic state period was 77 days. In case of scenario 2, the initial value of biomass was 35.8 mg/L, and the eutrophic state lasted for 13 days. In case of scenario 3, the initial value of biomass was 71.6 mg/L, and the eutrophic state was nonexistent. The scenario 3 was selected as planting plan of Menyanthes trifoliata L. Through this study, planting design with an endangered plant was developed to control eutrophication in small closed-type wetland.

■ Title: 시스템 다이내믹스를 이용한 신두리 해안사구의 보전방안

The purpose of this study is to analyze the land-use changes in the coastal areas using system dynamics modeling and to provide directions for effective management to maintain coastal dune areas. This research process consists of four steps: First, we built the basic model based on the causal loop diagram which was analyzed the land-use change of Sindu-ri Coastal Dune. Second, a time series land-use change map using Arc Map was established. Third, the validity of the basic model was tested. Finally, three simulations were performed for the cut over area(100,000㎡/y, 150,000㎡/y, 200,000㎡/y) of windbreak for maintaining the coastal dune areas. Simulation of the basic model showed that the area of the coastal dune will be consistently decreased. Based on the simulation, if windbreak were cut down 150,000㎡/y, windbreak area will be restored to the target area in 2019. This study has the limitation which the simulation is progressed with a limited variable: area. Therefore, the modeling of coastal dune should be reflected various variables in the further study.

■ Title: 시스템 사고를 통한 다기능 생태저류지의 관리방안-광명 안터생태공원을 중심으로-

Ecological reservoir is a multifunctional space where provides the functions of retention, animal habitat and improvement of ecosystem health and landscape. The ecological reservoir of Anteo Eco Park located in Gwangmyeong-si has established to functions for water purification, maintenance of healthy aquatic ecosystem. Because the Anteo Eco Park is located in the site where nonpoint pollutant materials flow in, Anteo Eco Park has potential factors which aquatic ecosystem health deteriorates and damages the habitat of golden frog(Rana plancyi chosenica) which is restoration target species. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to suggest the plan to manage the variables which impede the right functions of aquatic ecosystem by understanding the causal loop diagram for the change of water quality environment and the interaction of predator-prey through system thinking. The results are as follows. First, the study showed that the individual number of golden frog which is an indicator species of Anteo Eco Park is threatened by snakeheaded fish, which is an upper predator. Therefore, balanced food chain should be hold to protect golden frog by capturing the snakeheaded fish which is individual number’s density is high, and the monitoring management of the individual number for predator (snakeheaded fish)-prey(golden frog) should be performed. Second, the study represented that water pollution and carnification is caused by the sediment as the dead body of the large emergent vegetation in the winter cumulates as sediment. Ecological reservoir in Anteo Eco Park has been managed by eliminating the dead body of the large emergent vegetation, but the guideline for the proper density maintenance of vegetation community is additionally needed. Lastly, the study showed that aquatic ecosystem of Anteo Eco Park where is contaminated from the inflow of nonpoint pollutants affects the individual number’s decline of golden frog and snakeheaded fish. Accordingly, the creation of a buffer area and a substitution wetland is needed in the periphery of the Anteo Eco Park to control the inflow of nonpoint pollutants including organic matters, nutrients and heavy metals. This study will be helpful that Anteo Eco Park improves the regional landscape and maintain healthy aquatic ecosystem space for the park visitors including local residents.

■ Title: An Integrated Approach to Mitigation Wetland Site Selection: A Case Study in Gwacheon, Korea

This paper presents an integrated approach to mitigation wetland site selection using functional landscape connectivity and landscape structure. This approach enables landscape designers to evaluate the relative priorities of mitigation wetland areas based on functional landscape connectivity and wildlife mobility, as well as landscape structure, composition, and configuration. The least-cost path method is used to evaluate candidate sites for mitigation wetlands with regard to wildlife movement. A set of assessments for landscape indices using FRAGSTATS was applied to identify suitable mitigation wetland areas on the basis of landscape connectivity, composition, and configuration. The study was conducted in Gwacheon, Korea, where there are plans for regional development that will change the landscape. In the first step, a group of 14 candidate sites is identified via analysis of functional landscape connectivity using the least-cost path method. In the second step, candidate mitigation wetland areas are ranked according to landscape connectivity and composition. The five mitigation wetland areas that were found to be suitable were analyzed based on landscape configuration at the class level. This study demonstrates that functional landscape connectivity and landscape structure are important aspects to consider when identifying suitable sites for mitigation wetland planning and restoration.

■ Title: 도시광장 설계요소 및 공간이용 만족도 분석-광화문과장과 금빛공원광장을 중심으로-

The city square is an important public open space for people. Being used for various activities, such as community gatherings, open markets, concerts, political rallies, and other events, many types of city squares are represented in a city. Nevertheless, most city squares are planned uniformly, lacking consideration for visitor behavior and use satisfaction. The study investigated the design factors and subcomponents influencing user satisfaction with different types of city squares. This study focused on the general city square in Seoul, including the grand public place (i.e. Gwanghwamun Square) and the neighborhood park (i.e. Geumbit Square). The data were analyzed using factor analysis, linear regression and fuzzy theory. The results of the study are as follows: first, five design factors of satisfaction with city squares are identified (Amenity, Usability, Spatial components, Culture, and Comfortableness). Second, Amenity, Comfortableness, and spatial components significantly affect user satisfaction with Gwanghwamun in that order. On the other hand, in Geumbit Square, Comfortableness, Amenity, Usability and Spatial components affect user satisfaction in a significant way, in that order. Third, cleanliness, a subcomponent of amenity, was ranked highest using the fuzzy theory function for satisfaction with Gwanghwamun Square. Otherwise, the prevalence of plants was ranked the highest on the Geumbit Square survey. The study compared design factors influencing satisfaction in the public grand place and the neighborhood park. The results have implications for designing and planning city squares to the satisfaction of their visitors.

■ Title: 해안사구의 토지이용과 경관가치에 대한 시스템 사고

This study aimed to suggest the directions for the landscape protection of Sindu-ri coastal dune based on its ecological system. The study investigated ecological systems of the coastal dune followed by damage causes of coastal dune according to the land use change, and landscape value of coastal dune in the study area. In order to construct causal-effect feedback loop, systems thinking was performed.

Result of this study showed that the area of coastal dune and the amount of sand are maintained by the interaction with sand beach while they are affected by wind direction, wind speed, and dune plants. It was also found that the changes of land use pattern, increasing commercial area, and planted windbreak forest damaged to the coastal dune. In addition, size of coastal dune and growing number of dune plants increased landscape value of coastal dune and tourist draw. However increasing tourists have constantly affected land use changes and have damaged to coastal dune area.

In sum, planning for land use regulation, rest-year system areas, promotion and education for coastal dune, dune plants protection, and windbreak management should be taken into account for landscape protection in coastal dune.

■ Title: 가리왕산 스키장 건설을 둘러싼 논쟁과 생태관광의 회복력(resilience)에 대한 시스템 사고

This paper deals with system thinking in the resilience of the SES (Social- Ecological Systems) around Mt. Gariwang, located in Jeongseon County, Gangwon Province, in particular with the disturbance that a new ski slope is planned to be built for the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic. It first performs a literature survey and newspaper article search to summarize the controversy with regards to credible environmental and socio-economical impacts of the plan, and then elaborates a series of CLDs (Causal Loop Diagrams) to infer the dynamics of the impacts. The results imply that the natural restoration seems to be hard because the development activities can cause a great deal of damage to the ecosystem mainly due to soil degradation and the mitigation of icy valley effects with water exploitation for making artificial snow and so on. Moreover most of the households near the planned site seem to leave with land compensation, thus more policy efforts are needed to enhance the resilience of the ecosystem and the nearby society based on ecotourism.
